The Definitive Guide to Assembling Your Himiway D5 2.0

Unboxing your new Himiway D5 2.0 is a great feeling. But turning a box of components into a fine-tuned, road-ready e-bike can get messy.

To make your assembly process easier, I've created a comprehensive roadmap based on the official owner's manual. I've included the granular, step-by-step instructions you need, so you can build with confidence.

In this guide, we're going to discuss:

What's in the Box: Your Pre-Assembly Checklist

Before you start, let's do a quick inventory. Laying everything out gives you a clear picture of the project ahead and ensures nothing is missing.

Your package should include these items:

  • Essential Components
    • An e-bike (D5 2.0 or D5 ST 2.0), not fully assembled;Owner's Manual;Charger;Pedals (a pair);Headlight
  • Complimentary Accessories
    • Bell;Hex wrench;15mm Wrench;Drawstring Bag;A bike-specific screw set

Pro Tip: I highly recommend removing the battery before you begin assembly. This reduces the bike's weight, making it easier to maneuver, and prevents potential damage to the battery during the process.

Handlebar Installation and Positioning

Your handlebars are your control center. Getting them installed correctly is the first major step to getting your bike ready to ride.

Here are the precise steps from the manual to get it done right:

  1. Remove the Stem Cap. Use a 4mm Allen key to take off the handlebar stem cap.
  2. Insert & Pre-Lock the Handlebars. Put the handlebar into the stem. Pre-lock it, making sure it's firmly in place with no wobbling.
  3. Align with Crosshairs. Adjust the handlebar to line up with the stem's crosshairs.
  4. Tighten the Stem Cap (X-Pattern). With a 4mm Allen key, tighten the stem cap following an X-shaped sequence (e.g., top-left, bottom-right, top-right, bottom-left). The manual recommends a torque of 12-18 Nm for the handlebar.

Front Light and Bell Installation

Let's get your visibility and safety features installed.

How to Install the Front Light

Here’s the step-by-step process:

  1. Remove the fixing bolts of the headlight.
  2. Align the screw holes of the headlight with those of the bracket on the riser, insert the bolts, adjust the irradiation angle, and then lock the bolts.
  3. Finally, connect the headlight power cables in the direction of the arrow by plugging them into each other.

How to Install the Bell

The bell can be easily mounted on the handlebar near one of the grips for quick access. Use the provided screw to clamp it securely in place.

D5 2.0 Front Wheel Installation

This step is critical to your safety, so take your time here. I find having a helper makes this process much smoother, but it can be done solo.

Step-by-Step Installation Guide:

  1. Loosen the bolts of the meter bracket, then rotate the meter so that it is below the horizontal plane of the handlebar.
  2. Carefully flip your bike upside down for the front wheel installation.
    Install D5 2.0 front wheel Step 2
  3. Remove the spacer from the brake caliper.
    Install D5 2.0 front wheel Step 3
  4. Insert the front wheel into the front fork. Seat the hub axle into the dropouts. Ensure the disc brake rotor is properly aligned and centered within the caliper.Install D5 2.0 front wheel Step 4
  5. Tighten and secure the front cap nut with the socket wrench. The recommended torque is 30-35 Nm.

Pro Tip: If you have two people, there's no need to flip the bicycle. One person can lift the front of the bike while the other places the front wheel directly below the fork, carefully slotting the axle into the dropouts and ensuring the brake rotor inserts properly into the caliper. Then, just tighten the bolts.

Front Fender Installation

The front fender (or mudguard) keeps you clean from road spray.

How to Install the Front Fender:

  1. Please flip the bicycle again to stand it upright on the ground.Install D5 2.0 Front Fender Step 1
  2. Attach the fender bracket to the fork crown and tighten the screws with a 5mm Allen key. The recommended torque is 14-15 Nm.
    Install D5 2.0 Front Fender Step 2
  3. Use a 5mm Allen key to secure the fender stays on both sides of the fork arms. Ensure the stays are aligned parallel to the wheel axis for stable mounting.

Left & Right Pedal Installation

This seems straightforward, but it's a common place to make a mistake. The pedals are side-specific to prevent them from loosening as you ride.

Follow These Steps Carefully:

  1. Identify Pedals. Check the "L" or "R" sticker on the pedal axle to distinguish left and right pedals.
  2. Install Right Pedal. Hand-tighten the right pedal clockwise, then use a 15mm wrench to secure it.
  3. Install Left Pedal. Thread the left pedal in counter-clockwise by hand, and tighten with a 15mm wrench to 35-40 Nm.

How to Remove the Battery:

  1. Find the keys located on the handlebar and remove them.
  2. To remove the battery, first support the lower battery casing with your palm.D5 2.0 Battery remove step 1

Tire Pressure Check

Proper tire pressure is the foundation of a safe, efficient, and comfortable ride.

How to Check and Inflate:

  1. Squeeze the tire. If it compresses easily, inflate it.
  2. Use a pump with an AV interface.
  3. Inflate until the tire resists compression, but don't exceed the max pressure listed on the tire.
  4. Follow the tire pressure markings on the tire sidewall: 50-210 kPa (8-30 psi / 0.5-2.1 bar).

Control Adjustment

This is where you fine-tune the bike's handling to suit your riding style.

Stem Angle Adjustment:

  1. Use a 6mm Allen key to loosen the side-locating bolt on the handlebar stem. Do not fully remove it—just release the tension.
  2. Gently lift the handlebar and rotate it to the desired angle (e.g., forward for aggressive riding, upward for comfort).
  3. Tighten the bolt with a torque wrench to 22-25 Nm.

Seat Angle Adjustment:

  1. Use a 5mm Allen wrench to loosen the seat adjustment bolt on the clamp positioned directly underneath the seat.
  2. Move the seat backward or forward and tilt it to adjust the angle. A position horizontal to flat ground is desirable for most riders.
  3. While holding the seat in position, use a 5mm Allen key to tighten the bolt securely to the recommended torque value of 8Nm.D5 2.0 Seat Angle Adjustment

Front Fork Adjustment:

  • To lock the suspension: Turn the adjustment knob clockwise until the suspension locks up. This is ideal for smooth, paved roads.
  • To soften the suspension: Turn the adjustment knob counter-clockwise to decrease compression damping.
  • To adjust preload: Turn the preload adjustment knob counter-clockwise until it stops. This is the minimum preload, or the softest setting.

Installation Verification: Your Final Safety Check

Think of this as a pre-flight checklist for your bike. It's a critical final step before your first ride.

Review this safety checklist:

  • Brakes: Test both front and rear brakes for proper function. Make sure the control levers are tightly secured to the handlebars.
  • Wheels and Tires: Check that all wheel spokes are tight and not broken. Ensure the rims run true and have no obvious wobbles or kinks. If riding feels imbalanced or the front wheel makes noise, it likely means the bolts were not completely tightened or didn't align horizontally.
  • Cranks and Pedals: Ensure the pedals are securely tightened to the cranks and that the cranks are securely tightened and not bent.
  • Battery Pack: Ensure the battery is charged before use and locked securely to the frame.
