HMW Assist System Update — Your Bike Just Got Better

A new firmware update is now available for your HMW-equipped e-bike. This update brings smoother starts, real-time mode switching, and improved system performance — all delivered wirelessly to your bike.

What's New

1. More Starting Power

Your benefit: Easier starts and smoother acceleration.

We've increased the assist ratio from 1:3.5 to 1:5.5. This means more power when you start pedaling — especially helpful on hills, at traffic lights, or when carrying cargo.

2. Real-Time Torque/Cadence Switching

Your benefit: Switch between workout mode and relaxed riding — mid-ride, without stopping.

Now you can switch between Torque and Cadence sensor modes while riding. Just long-press the M button, and the display will show your current mode in real-time.

  • Torque Mode: The harder you pedal, the more power you get. Great for exercise and hills.
  • Cadence Mode: Steady power based on your pedaling rhythm. Easier on your knees and battery.

3. System Improvements

Your benefit: Faster, smoother experience.

  • Faster boot-up speed
  • Improved menu naming
  • General system optimizations

This update is available for:

  • A7 1.0
  • A7 2.0
  • D5 2.0
  • D5 2.0 ST
  • D5 2.0 CAMO
  • D5 2.0 20"

How to Update Your Bike

What you need: A phone or router that can create a Wi-Fi hotspot with internet access.

Step 1: Set Up Your Wi-Fi Hotspot

On your phone (or router), create a hotspot with these exact settings:

  • Network Name: ota
  • Password: ota12345

iPhone Users: Please enable "Maximize Compatibility" in your hotspot settings.

Keep your phone close to your e-bike during the update.

Step 2: Enter the Settings Menu

  1. Power on your e-bike
  2. Long-press the M button to enter the Settings Menu
  3. Navigate to System and OTA → OTA Upgrade

Step 3: Start the Upgrade

  1. Simultaneously long-press the Power button and Minus (−) button
  2. The upgrade will begin automatically
  3. Wait for the process to complete — do not power off your bike

Alternative Method

Step 1: Use a mobile phone or router that can connect to the Internet to set up a Wi-Fi hotspot. Keep it close to your e-bike.

  • Network Name: ota
  • Password: ota12345

Step 2: Long-press the M button to enter the Settings Menu, and select the last item in the menu.

Step 3: Simultaneously long-press the Power button and the Minus (−) button. The OTA upgrade mode will start.

Once you see the upgrade screen, the update is in progress. Wait for it to complete — do not power off your bike.

Note: The earliest batches of A7 do not have the standard OTA menu. Use this method instead — after upgrading, your bike will support the standard method above.

Tip: If the upgrade fails, please check your network connection and try again.

iPhone Users: Please enable "Maximize Compatibility" in your hotspot settings.

How to Verify the Upgrade

After the update completes:

  1. Power on your e-bike
  2. Long-press M and enter password 0510 to access Settings
  3. Go to System and OTA → System Info
  4. Check the DISPLAY version number

If it shows 2.2.7 — your upgrade was successful!

Troubleshooting

If the upgrade fails, try these steps:

  1. Check your internet connection
  2. Double-check the hotspot name (ota) and password (ota12345)
  3. Move your phone closer to the e-bike
  4. Restart your phone's hotspot and try again
