Getting deep into hunting country often means dealing with steep climbs, loose gravel, mud, sand, snow, and miles of unmaintained trails. An electric hunting bike can make those trips easier while remaining considerably quieter than an ATV or gas-powered dirt bike.

But not every fat-tire e-bike is suitable for hunting. The best electric hunting bikes combine long battery range, strong climbing torque, wide tires, dependable brakes, durable suspension, and enough payload capacity for a rider plus hunting equipment.

10 Best Electric Hunting Bikes for Long Range and Rough Terrain

Below are 10 of the best electric hunting bikes for long-range trips and rough terrain.

Best Electric Hunting Bikes at a Glance

9 RadRover 6 Plus Recreational Hunting & Trails 45+ miles
10 UBCO 2X2 Hunt Edition Premium Electric Hunting Utility Up to 75 miles

*Manufacturer range figures depend heavily on battery configuration, assist level, rider weight, cargo, elevation, temperature, and terrain.

1. QuietKat Apex Pro — Best Overall Electric Hunting Bike

The QuietKat Apex Pro is one of the strongest choices for hunters who regularly ride steep, technical terrain.

It uses a 1,000W mid-drive motor and a 48V 17.25Ah battery. QuietKat rates the Apex Pro for approximately 25–52 miles of range. The mid-drive layout is especially useful when climbing because the motor can take advantage of the bike's drivetrain rather than driving the wheel directly.

Its 24 x 4-inch all-terrain fat tires provide traction over dirt, loose gravel, mud, and other unpredictable surfaces. A 140mm inverted suspension fork helps keep the front wheel under control on rough trails.

The bike also includes four-piston hydraulic brakes and an integrated rear rack capable of carrying up to 100 pounds of cargo. Total load capacity is rated at 325 pounds.

Best for: Serious hunters who regularly encounter steep climbs and difficult backcountry trails.

Pros:

  • Powerful mid-drive system
  • Up to 52 miles of claimed range
  • 4-inch all-terrain tires
  • 140mm suspension fork
  • Heavy-duty integrated rack
  • Four-piston hydraulic brakes

Cons:

  • Premium price
  • More bike than casual hunters may need

2. Bakcou Storm — Best for Extreme Backcountry Terrain

The Bakcou Storm is designed around the Bafang Ultra mid-drive platform and is aimed squarely at demanding off-road riding.

One of the biggest advantages of this motor platform is torque. Bakcou's Bafang Ultra-equipped hunting bikes can deliver up to 160 Nm, providing the low-speed pulling force needed for steep grades and heavy hunting loads.

Unlike a basic commuter e-bike with fat tires added to it, the Storm is designed as a backcountry machine. Full suspension gives it an advantage when trails become rocky, rutted, or uneven.

For hunters who frequently travel through mountainous country and value climbing ability over low weight or portability, the Storm is a serious option.

Best for: Steep, technical and mountainous hunting terrain.

Pros:

  • High-torque mid-drive motor
  • Full suspension
  • Strong climbing performance
  • Purpose-built for backcountry riding
  • Fat tires for loose terrain

Cons:

  • Expensive
  • Heavy compared with conventional mountain bikes

3. Himiway D5 2.0 Camo Hunting eBike — Best Value for Long Range and Heavy Loads

The Himiway D5 2.0 20-inch Camo Hunting eBike stands out for hunters who want a combination of range, load capacity, compact handling, and rough-terrain comfort without moving into the price range of premium hunting-specific mid-drive bikes.

Himiway D5 2.0 Camo full suspension fat tire electric bicycle, rear-right-three-quarter view

Its 750W geared hub motor produces 90 Nm of torque, providing useful assistance for dirt roads, rolling trails, hills, and riding with equipment. The 48V 15Ah battery uses Samsung/LG 21700 cells and is rated for up to 70 miles of pedal-assist range or approximately 40 miles using the throttle under test conditions.

That long range is particularly valuable for hunting. Traveling several miles into the woods is only half the trip—you still need enough battery capacity to get back after spending hours in the field.

The D5 2.0 also offers 90mm front and 100mm rear suspension travel, making it a full-suspension option for forest roads, gravel, uneven trails, and other rough surfaces. Its 20 x 4.0-inch Kenda x Himiway fat tires use K-Shield puncture-resistant construction, which can reduce the risk of a simple puncture ending a remote trip.

Payload capacity is another major advantage. The bike supports up to 440 pounds of total load, while its rear rack is rated for up to 120 pounds. That provides substantial capacity for carrying hunting equipment, camping supplies, clothing, food, or other gear.

The compact 20-inch wheels and low frame also make the bike easier to control at low speeds and when frequently stopping and starting on narrow trails. Riders from approximately 4'11" to 6'3" are within Himiway's stated fit range.

Best for: Hunters looking for a long-range fat-tire hunting e-bike with high payload capacity at a more accessible price.

Pros:

  • 750W motor with 90 Nm torque
  • Up to 70 miles of pedal-assist range
  • 440-pound payload capacity
  • 120-pound rear rack capacity
  • Full suspension
  • 20 x 4-inch puncture-resistant fat tires
  • Compact dimensions for tight trails
  • Torque and cadence sensor modes

Cons:

  • Hub drive is less optimized for extremely steep technical climbing than a premium mid-drive
  • Approximately 80-pound bike weight can make manual transport difficult

For hunters who don't need the extreme climbing performance of a high-priced mid-drive hunting bike, the D5 2.0 Camo offers a practical balance between range, payload, comfort, and value.

4. Bakcou Mule Jäger — Best for Hauling Hunting Gear

The Bakcou Mule Jäger is appropriately named: it is designed to function as a backcountry workhorse.

It uses the Bafang Ultra M620 mid-drive motor, producing up to 160 Nm of torque. Bakcou offers 48V 21Ah and 25Ah battery configurations, with the larger option reaching 1,200Wh.

Another distinctive feature is its Rohloff 14-speed internally geared hub. The setup offers a wide gearing range without relying on a conventional exposed derailleur system.

Stopping power comes from Tektro quad-piston hydraulic brakes paired with large 203mm rotors at both ends. Those brakes become especially important when descending steep terrain while carrying equipment.

Best for: Hunters carrying substantial gear into remote areas.

Pros:

  • 160 Nm of torque
  • Bafang Ultra mid-drive motor
  • Large battery options
  • Rohloff 14-speed hub
  • Four-piston hydraulic brakes
  • Purpose-built backcountry frame

Cons:

  • Very expensive
  • Specialized components can increase ownership cost

5. Rambo Megatron 4.0 — Best AWD Hunting E-Bike

For riders who prioritize traction, the Rambo Megatron 4.0 takes a different approach from conventional single-motor hunting bikes.

Its dual-motor AWD design allows both wheels to contribute to propulsion. That can provide an advantage on loose surfaces, muddy tracks, sand, snow, and steep trails where a single driven wheel can lose traction.

The Megatron is particularly attractive for hunters who frequently encounter difficult surfaces rather than groomed fire roads.

The tradeoff is weight and complexity. Dual motors and large batteries make an AWD e-bike considerably heavier than a conventional hunting bike.

Best for: Mud, snow, sand and other low-traction hunting environments.

Pros:

  • All-wheel drive
  • Excellent traction
  • High-output dual-motor system
  • Fat tires
  • Designed for difficult off-road terrain

Cons:

  • Heavy
  • More complex than a single-motor e-bike
  • Premium price

6. Birch Grolar Hunting E-Bike — Best Long-Range Dual-Motor Option

The Birch Grolar combines dual hub motors with a large 1,200Wh battery.

According to Birch, the Grolar uses dual 48V 750W hub motors producing up to 160 Nm of torque. Its 48V 25Ah battery provides a claimed range of up to 85 miles with pedal assist or approximately 45 miles using the throttle.

Its 26 x 4-inch puncture-resistant tires and 180mm inverted front suspension are designed for rough terrain. Payload capacity is rated at 400 pounds, with the rear rack supporting up to 110 pounds.

At 109 pounds with the battery installed, however, this is a substantial machine.

Best for: Hunters who want AWD-style dual-motor capability combined with a large battery.

Pros:

  • Dual 750W motors
  • 160 Nm claimed maximum torque
  • 1,200Wh battery
  • Up to 85 miles of pedal-assist range
  • 400-pound payload
  • 26 x 4-inch puncture-resistant tires

Cons:

  • Very heavy
  • Dual motors consume more energy when used aggressively

7. Rambo Savage 2.0 — Best Camo Hunting E-Bike

The Rambo Savage 2.0 is a hunting-focused fat-tire e-bike for riders who want a traditional camouflage appearance combined with practical trail capability.

Its Mossy Oak-style hunting aesthetic is an obvious attraction, but camouflage alone doesn't make a good hunting bike. More important are the fat tires, substantial battery capacity, rear cargo capability, and motor assistance for moving through uneven terrain.

Compared with extreme AWD machines, the Savage is a more conventional option for hunters using logging roads, forest tracks, farm roads, and moderate off-road trails.

Best for: Hunters wanting a purpose-styled camo bike for general backcountry riding.

Pros:

  • Hunting-oriented design
  • Fat tires
  • Camo finish
  • Useful cargo potential
  • Suitable for mixed off-road terrain

Cons:

  • Not as capable on extreme terrain as high-end mid-drive or AWD models
  • Range varies substantially with terrain and load

8. PUCKIPUPPY Boxer ST — Best Budget Full-Suspension Hunting Bike

The PUCKIPUPPY Boxer ST is one of the more affordable options for riders wanting fat tires and full suspension.

It uses a 750W motor rated at 960W peak and is paired with a 48V battery. Current Boxer ST specifications list a claimed 40–80-mile range, depending on riding conditions and assist usage.

The bike has 26 x 4-inch fat tires, hydraulic disc brakes, front and rear suspension, and a 400-pound maximum load capacity.

The step-through frame can also be useful for hunters wearing bulky winter clothing or carrying equipment, since it reduces the need to swing a leg high over the rear of the bike.

Best for: Budget-conscious hunters who want full suspension and long claimed range.

Pros:

  • Affordable
  • 750W motor
  • Up to 80 miles claimed range
  • Full suspension
  • 400-pound load capacity
  • Step-through frame

Cons:

  • Cadence sensor rather than torque sensing
  • Less specialized for hunting than premium models

9. RadRover 6 Plus — Best for Light Hunting and Recreational Trails

The RadRover 6 Plus isn't specifically designed as a hunting bike, but its proven fat-tire platform can work for hunters who mainly travel on gravel roads, farm tracks and moderate trails.

It uses a 750W geared hub motor, puncture-resistant 26 x 4-inch fat tires and has a claimed range of 45+ miles. Payload capacity is 275 pounds.

The RadRover makes the most sense for hunters who also want their bike for recreational riding. It isn't intended to compete with machines like the QuietKat Apex Pro or Bakcou Mule on steep technical backcountry terrain.

Best for: Recreational riders who occasionally use their e-bike for hunting access.

Pros:

  • 750W geared hub motor
  • 26 x 4-inch puncture-resistant tires
  • 45+ miles claimed range
  • Established fat-tire platform
  • Useful for both everyday riding and trails

Cons:

  • 275-pound payload is lower than several hunting-focused alternatives
  • Not purpose-built for extreme backcountry terrain

10. UBCO 2X2 Hunt Edition — Best Premium Hunting Utility Vehicle

The UBCO 2X2 Hunt Edition sits at the extreme end of this category. Technically, UBCO describes it as an all-wheel-drive electric motorbike, rather than a conventional pedal e-bike.

Each wheel receives a 1.7kW peak hub motor, providing true all-wheel drive. The machine uses a large 3.1kWh battery and has a claimed maximum range of up to 75 miles.

It is also specifically equipped for hunters, with front and rear cargo decks, MOLLE panels, bow/gun mounting provisions and a 330-pound maximum carrying capacity including the rider.

Its 40 mph Boost Mode makes the distinction important: depending on where you ride, the UBCO may be legally treated very differently from a Class 1, 2, or 3 electric bicycle.

Best for: Hunters wanting a dedicated electric alternative to a small off-road motorbike or ATV.

Pros:

  • True AWD
  • Dual 1.7kW peak motors
  • 3.1kWh battery
  • Up to 75 miles claimed range
  • Hunting-specific cargo system
  • Bow/gun mounting provisions

Cons:

  • $6,499-level premium pricing
  • Not a conventional e-bike
  • Access and registration rules may differ from electric bicycles

How to Choose the Best Electric Hunting Bike

The biggest motor isn't automatically the best choice. A hunting e-bike needs to balance range, traction, climbing ability, cargo capacity and reliability.

Range and Battery Capacity

For backcountry hunting, consider both the distance to your destination and the return trip. A bike advertised for 60 miles won't necessarily travel 60 miles through mud and steep hills.

Range generally decreases with:

  • Heavy cargo
  • Steep climbs
  • Low temperatures
  • Soft sand or mud
  • Low tire pressure
  • Frequent throttle use
  • High pedal-assist settings

If you routinely travel far into the backcountry, prioritize battery capacity or the ability to carry a spare battery.

Motor and Torque

Torque is particularly important for hunting because riders frequently carry more weight than recreational cyclists.

A 750W hub motor can be sufficient for forest roads and moderate trails. For very steep mountainous terrain, a high-torque mid-drive can provide better low-speed climbing because it can use the bicycle's gears.

Dual-motor bikes offer another solution by improving traction, although they usually increase weight and energy consumption.

Fat Tires

For hunting, 4-inch fat tires are popular because they provide additional flotation and traction over loose terrain.

They are particularly useful on:

  • Sand
  • Snow
  • Mud
  • Loose gravel
  • Forest roads
  • Rocky trails

Puncture-resistant construction is also worth prioritizing. Fixing a flat tire several miles from the nearest road can quickly turn into a major problem.

Suspension

Front suspension is usually sufficient for moderate forest roads.

Full suspension becomes much more valuable when riding over rocks, roots, deep ruts and continuously uneven terrain. It can also help maintain rear-wheel contact with the ground, improving comfort and control.

Payload Capacity

Don't look only at rider weight.

Your actual load may include your body weight plus a backpack, hunting equipment, clothing, food, water, tools, racks and other equipment.

A higher-capacity bike such as the Himiway D5 2.0 20-inch, with its 440-pound total payload rating and 120-pound rear rack rating, provides more flexibility when carrying substantial equipment.

Brakes

Hunting bikes are heavy, and adding cargo increases stopping distance.

Hydraulic disc brakes are strongly preferable for demanding terrain. Large rotors and four-piston calipers become particularly useful when descending long, steep hills with a loaded bike.

Which Electric Hunting Bike Is Best?

For demanding backcountry hunting, the QuietKat Apex Pro is our top overall choice because of its powerful mid-drive system, rugged suspension, fat tires, cargo capability and hunting-focused design.

The Bakcou Storm is particularly attractive for hunters facing steep, technical terrain where high motor torque and full suspension matter most.

For riders seeking a better balance between price, range and carrying capacity, the Himiway D5 2.0 Camo Hunting eBike is our No. 3 choice. Its combination of up to 70 miles of pedal-assist range, 750W/90 Nm motor, full suspension, 4-inch tires and 440-pound payload capacity makes it especially practical for long hunting trips where equipment capacity matters.

For maximum traction, consider an AWD or dual-motor model such as the Birch Grolar. And for hunters looking for something closer to an electric utility motorbike than a bicycle, the UBCO 2X2 Hunt Edition provides a specialized premium alternative.

FAQ

Are electric bikes good for hunting?

Yes. Electric bikes can provide quiet access to hunting areas while allowing riders to cover considerably more distance with less physical effort than on a conventional bicycle. Fat-tire hunting bikes are particularly useful on forest roads, gravel, sand, snow and moderate off-road trails.

How much range should a hunting e-bike have?

For serious hunting use, a claimed range of 50 miles or more provides useful flexibility. However, real-world range can be significantly lower when carrying heavy equipment, climbing steep hills, riding in cold weather or relying heavily on the throttle.

Always plan your trip using conservative range estimates rather than the manufacturer's maximum laboratory or ideal-condition figure.

Is a mid-drive or hub motor better for hunting?

A mid-drive motor is generally preferable for steep, technical terrain because it can take advantage of the bike's gears and maintain efficient motor RPM while climbing.

A hub motor is simpler and can offer excellent value for forest roads, gravel and moderate trails. High-torque hub motors are also perfectly capable for many hunting applications.

Are fat tires necessary for a hunting e-bike?

They aren't strictly necessary, but 4-inch fat tires are extremely useful for hunting because they improve traction and flotation on mud, sand, snow, loose gravel and uneven forest trails.

How much payload capacity should an electric hunting bike have?

A capacity of around 300–400 pounds or more is useful for many hunters because payload ratings include the rider as well as equipment.

If you're a heavier rider or routinely carry substantial hunting equipment, look for higher-capacity bikes. For example, the Himiway D5 2.0 20-inch is rated for up to 440 pounds total, although Himiway specifies a maximum rider weight of 265 pounds.

Can you use an electric hunting bike on public land?

Sometimes, but access depends on the land manager, trail and e-bike classification. Rules can differ substantially among federal land, state land, wildlife management areas and individual trail systems.

Always check the regulations for the specific hunting area before riding. A trail that permits a Class 1 e-bike may prohibit Class 2 or Class 3 models, and high-powered electric motorbikes such as the UBCO 2X2 may fall under entirely different rules.
